Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens better known by her stage name Queen Latifah is an American musician, actress, and rapper. In film, music and on television, Queen Latifah has won the award of two Screen Actors Guild Awards (two Image Awards), a Grammy Award as well as six more Grammy nominations, and nods to the Emmy Award. Queen Latifah is the daughter of the Newark New Jersey schoolteacher and a Newark New Jersey police officer Lancelot Owens Senior was born and raised within Newark New Jersey. Latifah's parents separated when she was 10 years old. Latifah lived within the Baptist faith and attended Catholic school at Newark New Jersey. When she was 8 when her mother gave Latifah the name of a stage Latifah which translates to delicate and kind in Arabic. Latifah is 5-foot-10" tall power forward on the team at her high school, was always tall. in a school show, she performed the song Home from The Wiz. Latifah first began to beatbox with the Ladies Fresh. Latifah was a part of the Flavor Unit's first group, made up of several MCs as well as DJ Mark 45 King. Mark James aka DJ Mark the 45 King recorded an unreleased version of Queen Latifah's rap Princess of the Posse. He handed the recording over to Yo! MTV Raps Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music was a member of Latifah during that time and was awed by the single. The song was released in 1988. Wrath of My Madness as Latifah's debut single.
